Aching for a vaca? A nice trip could be cheaper than you think

Everyone wants to go on a nice vaca once in awhile. No one wants to shell out the dough.

A solution may be in two sites I subscribe to that feature deals, usually 50% off or more. These sites have become an asset to the hospitality industry, which has suffered in this poor economy. But their loss, could be your gain.

Living Social Escapes has daily deals to far away places, as well as some right in your back yard. For instance here are some of the packages they've recently featured:

An escape to a waterfront cottage in New York's Adirondack's Mountains. The package included a two night stay for up to four guests, a complementary hiking book and local map, a s'mores package, and 10% off your dinner and a free appetizer at a local restaurant, all for $162 ($325 regularly).

Or, if you're craving some warmer weather there's a 4 night stay in Cozumel, Mexico for two that includes daily breakfast, a welcome drink and a bottle of wine, a tour, and a romantic dinner all for $434 ($1,000 regularly).

And if you're really feeling adventurous you can opt for an international deal, such as an 8-day trip through India that even includes airfare for $2, 217 (regularly $3,700).

Groupon Getaways is another good site for vacation deals. If you haven't signed up yet you can here. Recent deals include:

A two night stay in Vegas starting at $139 (regularly $254) that comes with a free bottle of liquor.

Or stay at the historic Powhatan resort in Williamsburg, Virginia for three nights for $259 (regularly $599).

Or take a trip to Nashville, Tennessee for $189 (normally about $400) with breakfast and a bottle of champagne waiting for you.

Of course, these are deals for a reason. Many do not include airfare and have restricted dates for use. However, if you're willing work within these restrictions your flexibility could really pay off.

*And just a side note, I've also heard that Tuesdays are the best day to book a flight because the big airlines put their rates up on Monday and all their competitors scramble to offer a lower one the next day.

You can get a good vacation for a good price if you know where to look :-)
